About Jen
Vocals, harmonica, percussion (chick with the tambourine)
I developed my vocal technique in cars and showers over the years. I discovered the soothing power of my voice in a desperate attempt to calm a screaming toddler in the back seat of the car on a dark, rainy night. I sang "Goodnight My Someone" to my then one and a half-year-old. The immediacy of her response was a surprise...first quiet sobs, then a deep, tired sigh, and finally contented breathing. Singing has largely been a tool of mothering--until now. I am discovering the joy of blues, jazz, and folk in addition to the rock and roll tunes I grew up with. I am finding that I love performance. I love to feel the energy of an audience, to grab them with a soulful crescendo or silence them with a quiet, understated melody. |
